Today's hormone-cast: Even if you get your recommended seven to eight hours of sleep, it'll be hard to muster a lot of energy today. No, your co-workers aren't sneaking sleeping pills into your Yoplait. The slow-down is simply a side effect of rising progesterone, which is a hormone that has a sedating, sleepy effect on you.

Last night I was ready to think about bed by 9:30, and in bed by 10. And it took me at least an hour before I left the house for my walk this morning, and I dawdled. And somehow it is now almost half past eleven. It's good to know my hormones are doing what they're supposed to be doing. Now if I could convince myself to fight nature and get some work done...
